Julie Writes:

A man I hold in high esteem said, when he heard the topic for this month’s Three O’clock Bookclub was “Women”, that he had not realised the impact of abuse against women until he read a memoir of a victim. This man has devoted his life to helping the most vulnerable and yet a book could help him see another perspective. Liane Moriarty writes seemingly light women’s literature that have an undercurrent of serious issues to make readers think. “Her Husband’s Secret” inspired weeks of discussion in the library about law, justice and punishment. Kathy Lette’s funny books do a similar thing. Bring your favourite or worst book about or by women, and throw its ideas into the discussion on Saturday.
