Famous Diseases and Diseases of the Famous reviewed by our trusty reviewer, Angela Galvin.
By J H Leavesley
This is a strange book – on the one hand very interesting but on the other hand deeply unsatisfying as it only scrapes the surface so to speak.
Discussing the health of people like Mussolini – Virginia Woolf – the Bronte Sisters and Hitler to name a few – and covering The history of Medical Practice and the “great” diseases – Plague and Cholera to name two.
As I said it is interesting but it almost feels like Dr Leavesley or his editors made him “dumb it down “ somehow. In any case it is really interesting and gives a shallow insight into the impact of disease on individuals and on the history they create.
